Driven by two-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Romain Dumas, the 1,400-horsepower electric van conquered the famous 1.16-mile hillclimb course in a blistering 43.987 seconds. The Ford SuperVan, an E-Transit-based model that has been completely reimagined as a high-performance EV, outpaced its closest competitor by more than two seconds. Former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed, piloting a specially modified 670-horsepower Subaru WRX, finished second with a time of 46.075 seconds.

The SuperVan’s victory is particularly notable given its unconventional form factor for a race model. Despite its van-like appearance and larger size compared to traditional race models, the SuperVan’s advanced electric powertrain and aerodynamic enhancements including the ability to generate up to 4,400 pounds of downforce, allowed it to outperform purpose-built racing machines.

2024 Goodwood Festival Of Speed

In terms of the whole event, the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed saw several debuts of global EVs from the Polestar Concept BST to MG Motors’ Cyber GTS. Interestingly, Ford’s venture in motorsports in 2024 also saw the unveiling of its 1,400 horsepower SuperTruck at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which was also driven by Dumas and made the fastest pass of all 61 competitors.

As automakers continue to push the boundaries of EV technology, events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed provide a platform to demonstrate the exciting potential of these powertrains. Ford’s SuperVan victory serves as a victory in the rapid advancements in EV performance and further progresses its path for motorsports.
