Farley told investors during Ford’s Q3 earnings call that vehicle sourcing is 95% complete and factory preparations begin later this year.

Ford is moving closer to launching its highly anticipated low-cost electric pickup, with CEO Jim Farley confirming that prototypes have entered the testing phase. The mid-size EV truck, set for production at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in 2027, will ride on the company’s new affordable EV platform. Farley told investors during Ford’s Q3 earnings call that vehicle sourcing is 95% complete and factory preparations begin later this year.
The upcoming electric pickup will feature lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs manufactured at Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park Michigan facility. These smaller, cost-efficient cells can be charged to 100 percent without accelerated degradation, helping the automaker target an entry price around $30,000. Ford will offer the truck exclusively in a four-door configuration, focusing on mainstream buyers looking for utility and value in a compact footprint, according to Ford Authority.
“This is not a distant plan; it’s right around the corner for us at Ford,” Farley told investors during the Ford Q3 earnings call. “Sourcing is at 95 percent complete now. We are testing vehicles. Will begin installing equipment in Louisville for the UEV later this year, and we are on track to start production of our LFP cells at Marshall, Michigan, plant later this year.”

According to Ford, the mid-size EV will combine performance and versatility, boasting acceleration comparable to a Mustang EcoBoost and interior space that surpasses a Toyota RAV4. The design includes both a front trunk and a lockable bed, giving owners added storage flexibility for outdoor gear and tools.
The truck will feature a simplified version of Ford’s BlueCruise semi-autonomous highway system and a rear-wheel drive layout optimized for efficiency and cost savings. Farley emphasized that this vehicle represents Ford’s near-term push into mass-market electrification rather than a distant vision.
