In a move to continue driving sales of its popular EVs, Ford has extended its customer referral program for the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning electric vehicles (EVs) through early 2025.

The Ford Model E Customer Referral Program Private Offer, which was originally aimed to run through July 2024 and was later extended to September 2024, will now be available to customers through January 2, 2025. Under the program, customers referred by existing Ford EV owners can receive a $500 discount off the MSRP of a 2024 or 2025 Mustang Mach-E or F-150 Lightning.

In a bulletin sent to dealers, Ford noted that the referral program “helps increase traffic and sales of EVs with new customers, while collecting feedback and learnings for a potential program expansion.”

Program Expands to More States

The program, which was initially only offered in a few select states, has gradually expanded its geographic reach, though it still excludes customers in Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

To take advantage of the discount, eligible customers must receive a valid certification from a referring advocate and provide a unique code to a participating Ford EV dealer. This allows the automaker to track the effectiveness of the referral program in driving new EV sales.

Supporting EV Sales Boost

The extension of the referral program comes at a crucial time for Ford’s EV operations. The automaker recently halted production of the F-150 Lightning for seven weeks spanning from mid-November 2024 to early January 2025 due to limited demand. The referral program is likely an effort to boost interest and sales of the electric truck as well as the Mustang Mach-E, one of Ford’s flagship electric models.

By providing a tangible discount for customers referred by existing EV owners, Ford is tapping into the power of word-of-mouth marketing to help drive the adoption of its EVs.

With the program now extended through the first weeks of 2025, Ford is clearly seeing positive results and is committed to leveraging this strategy to maintain the momentum of its EV sales surge.
