The split reflects diverging views on Ford’s earnings potential and how quickly current headwinds may ease.
Ford Motor Company received a bullish upgrade from UBS, which raised its rating from hold to buy, arguing that the market is underestimating the company’s earnings trajectory, according to Ford Authority.
UBS believes current valuations imply 2027 earnings per share of about $1.73, roughly 16% below its own forecast. The firm expects existing headwinds, including commodity pressures and broader economic concerns, to ease in the second half of 2026.
The outlook is also supported by Ford’s emerging Ford Energy business unit, which UBS sees as a potential growth driver as the company expands into energy and connected services.

Despite UBS’s optimism, other firms are taking a more cautious stance. Goldman Sachs recently lowered its price target on Ford from $15 to $13 while maintaining a neutral rating, citing ongoing macroeconomic risks and global uncertainty.
At the same time, UBS analyst Patrick Hummel pointed to mitigating factors, including Ford’s hedging of aluminum costs and contracted steel pricing for 2026, which could limit downside risks tied to commodity volatility.
The split highlights a broader debate around Ford’s near-term pressures versus its longer-term transformation strategy, including electrification, software integration, and new business units.
As Ford continues to navigate a challenging macro environment, investor sentiment remains finely balanced between execution risk and the potential for improved profitability in the years ahead.
