Ford may have offered the first subtle glimpse of its upcoming midsize electric pickup, as a recent image shared by CEO Jim Farley hints at new design details tied to the company’s next-gen EV platform.

The vehicle, expected to debut within the next year, is seen as critical to Ford’s long-term EV strategy and competitiveness.

Teaser image hints at new EV pickup design and functionality

A photo shared by Jim Farley during an internal “Product Day” event appears to show part of the bed from Ford’s upcoming midsize electric pickup. The vehicle will be built on the company’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, which Ford Motor Company has positioned as a cornerstone of its next-generation EV lineup, according to Ford Authority.

While details remain unconfirmed, the image suggests the pickup may feature functional bed rails similar to those seen on the Ford Maverick, potentially supporting modular cargo systems or even a powered tonneau cover for improved aerodynamics.

The bed also appears lower than traditional pickups, hinting at a reduced overall vehicle height, an important factor for improving efficiency in electric vehicles.

UEV platform underpins Ford’s next-generation EV strategy

The upcoming truck is expected to break from conventional pickup design, with Farley previously describing it as having a “new silhouette.” A lower, more aerodynamic profile could position it closer to crossover-like proportions while still offering utility.

Built on the UEV architecture, the model is anticipated to include advanced features such as a 48-volt electrical system, in-house software integration, and a focus on efficiency and performance. Early expectations suggest performance comparable to a Ford Mustang EcoBoost, alongside interior space rivaling compact SUVs like the Toyota RAV4.

The teaser also comes amid leadership changes within Ford’s EV division, following the departure of Doug Field and the transition of responsibilities to new leadership.

As Ford prepares to reveal the vehicle, the midsize EV pickup is shaping up to be a key product in bridging the gap between traditional trucks and more efficient, software-defined electric vehicles.
