The Mustang Mach-E secured the top-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ award for models built after August 2024, while the F-150 earned the TOP SAFETY PICK award for models built after September 2024. These accolades are not handed out lightly, requiring vehicles to excel in multiple rigorous safety evaluations.

Bob Holycross, Ford’s chief sustainability, environment, and safety officer, emphasized the company’s approach stating, “Our rigorous internal safety evaluations ensure Ford and Lincoln products meet the highest standards. Across our portfolio, we are dedicated to designing safe experiences for our customers and all road users.”

What It Takes to Win

To qualify for these distinguished awards, vehicles must demonstrate exceptional performance across several critical safety categories:

  • Good ratings in small overlap front tests
  • Good ratings in updated side crash tests
  • Acceptable or good ratings in pedestrian crash prevention
  • Acceptable or good ratings for headlight performance

The Mustang Mach-E particularly impressed, receiving “good” scores across multiple categories, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side tests, headlights, and front crash protection for pedestrians.

Broader Safety Recognition and Significance

These IIHS awards complement the vehicles’ five-star safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Mustang Mach-E joins an elite group of just ten vehicles to receive the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award this year, including models from Rivian, Mazda, and Volvo.

The awards are particularly noteworthy for the Mustang Mach-E, an electric crossover that has consistently performedwell in IIHS safety tests. From earning a “good” rating in side crash tests in 2022 to excelling in the moderate front overlap crash test in 2023, the vehicle continues to demonstrate Ford’s commitment to safety innovation.

As the automotive industry increasingly focuses on electric and advanced vehicles, these safety recognitions provide crucial reassurance to consumers about the reliability and protection offered by modern Ford vehicles.
