Ford plans to unveil its next-generation EV platform and new battery electric vehicles on August 11 during a dedicated event in Kentucky. CEO Jim Farley confirmed the news during Ford’s Q2 earnings call.

Farley predicts that the unveiling event will be another “Model T moment” for Ford. He noted that the announcement marks a pivotal reset of Ford’s electric vehicle roadmap, with new U.S.-built models aimed at boosting profitability in its struggling Ford e division.

Compact and mid-size EVs take priority in refreshed strategy

Ford’s upcoming platform was developed by a specialized skunkworks team. The new platform signals a major shift from the company’s earlier focus on large electric trucks and SUVs. In response to slowing demand, Ford is pivoting toward compact crossovers and mid-size pickups, segments where customer interest remains strong.

According to Yahoo Auto, Ford’s new EV platform is expected to serve as the foundation for multiple future models, starting with a mid-size electric pickup. The automaker expects the mid-size electric pickup equipped with the new EV platform to launch by 2027. Ford’s upcoming mid-size electric pickup will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries sourced from Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan, which begins production in 2026.

Flexible platform aims to cut costs, unify future model lines

Unlike the Mustang Mach-E’s dedicated EV structure, Ford’s new platform will support both electric and internal combustion vehicles, helping Ford streamline production and reduce development costs. A Ford spokesperson confirmed that the company will integrate electrical systems across key models, including the Bronco, Ranger, and Mustang, enabling software-defined features across the entire lineup.

Farley said the Kentucky event will showcase how Ford plans to deliver breakthrough EVs at scale, designed and built entirely in the U.S., to appeal to mainstream buyers.
