Ford reported a sharp decline in electric vehicle sales during the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting broader challenges in the U.S. EV market. The automaker delivered 14,513 EVs in Q4, marking a 52% drop year-over-year, as all three of its electric models posted lower sales.

The results highlight ongoing demand pressures as Ford recalibrates its electrification strategy.

Ford EV sales fall across all models in Q4 2025

Ford’s EV lineup in the U.S., the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit, all recorded declines during the quarter.

The Mustang Mach-E remained the brand’s top seller, delivering 9,658 units, down 40% year-over-year, and accounting for 67% of Ford’s EV sales, according to Ford Authority.

The F-150 Lightning followed with 4,273 units, a 60% decline, representing 29% of EV deliveries.

Meanwhile, the E-Transit saw the steepest drop, falling 83% to just 582 units, accounting for only 4% of total EV sales.

Overall, EVs made up just 2.6% of Ford’s total U.S. vehicle sales during the quarter, even as the company’s broader sales increased by 3% over the same period.

Market pressures and strategy shift reshape Ford EV outlook

Ford attributed the decline in part to broader industry headwinds, including regulatory changes and the expiration of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit at the end of September.

The automaker has already begun adjusting its long-term strategy. CEO Jim Farley previously said Ford plans to shift focus toward hybrid and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) across much of its lineup.

At the same time, Ford is developing its Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, designed to lower costs and support multiple vehicle types.

The platform is expected to underpin several future models, including a midsize electric pickup launching in 2027, along with additional vehicles such as compact and midsize crossovers, vans, and larger SUVs.

Ford said the UEV platform is aimed at delivering affordable EVs for the North American market, with a focus on reducing production costs and improving scalability.

The company has set a target for its EV division to become profitable by 2029, though executives have acknowledged that achieving that goal will depend on the success of its next-generation platform and evolving market conditions.
