Ford will officially launch its electric Bronco in China on December 19, moving quickly from pre-sales to customer deliveries as the automaker expands its localized EV lineup for the world’s largest auto market. The China-specific SUV blends off-road-inspired styling with extended-range and fully electric powertrains, targeting buyers seeking rugged looks with everyday usability.

Local production and pricing set the stage

Pre-sales for the electric Bronco began on November 18, with Ford offering five total variants split between extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) configurations. Pricing starts at RMB 229,800 ($32,610) for the base EREV model, with additional EREV trims priced at RMB 249,800 and RMB 272,800. The two BEV variants start at RMB 259,800 and top out at RMB 282,800.

The model is developed specifically by Ford China for local buyers and is produced through Ford’s joint venture with Jiangling Motors Corporation. Manufacturing takes place at JMC’s Nanchang, Jiangxi facility, where the first production-ready electric Bronco rolled off the line on December 11. That milestone also marked the plant’s 200,000th vehicle produced, underscoring Ford’s growing emphasis on China-focused EV development and manufacturing, according to CNEV Post.

Dimensionally, the electric Bronco measures 5,025 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,825 mm tall, riding on a 2,950 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the midsize SUV category for the Chinese market.

Powertrain options emphasize range and daily use

Ford’s EREV versions pair dual electric motors with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that acts solely as a generator. The front motor produces up to 130 kW, while the rear motor delivers 180 kW. A 43.7-kWh battery provides up to 220 km of electric-only range under China’s CLTC cycle, while the combined driving range stretches to as much as 1,220 km with a full tank and charged battery.

The BEV variants upgrade the rear motor to 202 kW and use a larger 105.4-kWh battery pack, enabling a CLTC-rated range of 650 km. Unlike the traditional body-on-frame Bronco sold elsewhere, the electric Bronco adopts a unibody platform, signaling a stronger focus on urban driving and comfort rather than hardcore trail use.
