Fisker may have shut down more than a year ago, but its ghost continues to flicker in unexpected ways. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted a design patent for the Alaska pickup truck on September 2, 2025—well after the EV startup declared bankruptcy and abandoned plans for new models.

The approval highlights a strange footnote in the downfall of Henrik Fisker’s company, once seen as an ambitious Tesla rival.

Patent reveals details of the abandoned Alaska truck

The patent drawings largely mirror the Alaska concept Fisker previewed in 2023, which was envisioned as a compact electric pickup sized similarly to the Ford Maverick. The design included a taller, squared-off front fascia, flared fenders, and an innovative cabin-to-bed opening similar to GM’s Midgate system, according to CarBuzz.

Fisker promised multiple battery options ranging from 75 to 113 kWh and performance figures as quick as 3.9 seconds in the 0–60 sprint. Despite appearing production-ready, the Alaska competed for scarce development resources alongside Fisker’s planned Pear hatchback and Ronin supercar, vehicles that never made it past concept stage.

Company’s digital footprint nearly erased

While the Alaska patent offers a glimpse of “what could have been,” Fisker’s online presence is rapidly fading. The company’s website now surfaces mainly through Wikipedia links, and only a recall letter for Ocean SUV owners remains accessible. That document outlines how affected customers can seek reimbursement for safety repairs, a rare consumer win following Fisker’s collapse.

Beyond that, product details, images, and press releases have disappeared, underscoring the brand’s abrupt end. Unlike Karma Automotive, which carried forward remnants of Fisker’s earlier ventures, no successor is expected to revive the Pear, Ronin, or Alaska. For owners, what lingers are depreciation concerns, limited support, and a fading reminder of another failed EV challenger.
