Ferrari has reintroduced one of its most iconic names with the launch of the 849 Testarossa, a plug-in hybrid supercar. The 849 Testarossa blends 1980s nostalgia with cutting-edge technology.

The Ferrari hybrid supercar was revealed in Milan. It replaces the SF90 Stradale as Ferrari’s new flagship and will be offered in both coupe and retractable-top spider variants.

Heritage-inspired design with next-gen power

The 849 Testarossa pays tribute to the legendary 1980s original while delivering modern hybrid performance. “Testarossa – or TR for short – is one of the most iconic names in Ferrari history. First used to describe the distinctive red cam covers of the Ferrari 500 TR’s engine in 1956, Testarossa subsequently appeared on legendary Le Mans winners and a certain 1980s poster pin-up supercar. Now it’s returning on a new super sports berlinetta to succeed the SF90 Stradale – the 849 Testarossa,” noted automotive journalist Ben Barry.

At its core is a re-engineered 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 830 horsepower, paired with three electric motors for a combined output of 1,050 cv. This setup propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.3 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 330 km/h. On electric power alone, the 7.45 kWh battery enables up to 25 km of range.

“Harnessing heritage while embracing state-of-the-art technology, the 849 Testarossa uses plug-in hybrid technology to produce a total power output of 1050 cv – 50 cv more than the SF90 Stradale,” commented Barry.

Global rollout and Ferrari’s hybrid-to-EV roadmap

Ferrari will begin deliveries of the 849 Testarossa in Europe next year. The coupe version’s starting price will be about $540,000 (€460,000), while the spider version starts at around $590,000  (€500,000). U.S. clients will receive their 849 Testaross at a later date and will pay higher prices due to tariffs.

The 849 Testarossa supercar completes Ferrari’s hybrid refresh as the company prepares to debut its first full electric vehicle in 2026. CEO Benedetto Vigna has confirmed Ferrari will continue producing hybrids and petrol models alongside EVs.
