Southern California tuning shop Evasive Motorsports is returning to the 2025 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a new electric contender: the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

After racing a modified Tesla Model 3 in 2022, the team is now placing its bets on Hyundai’s performance-focused EV to break the elusive 10-minute barrier at the 14,115-foot mountain event.

Built for speed and elevation

The Ioniq 5 N has undergone significant modifications for the challenge, including a 500-pound weight reduction and extensive aerodynamic enhancements. The team’s approach mirrors the lightweight, stripped-down strategy it used with its Tesla, but this time around, its vehicle also incorporates tech from Hyundai’s motorsport engineering division, according to MotorTrend.

To prepare the Ioniq 5 N for the extreme conditions of the Race to the Clouds, Evasive Motorsports removed the interior and replaced the stock doors and tailgate with carbon-fiber components. The EV now rides on forged Titan 7 wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan A005 slicks, with EVS Tuning aero discs added for better airflow at high altitudes.

Voltex, a well-known aero specialist, developed a full carbon fiber body kit including a front splitter, fender flares, side skirts, underbody panels, and a large rear wing for the Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak racer.

Experienced driver adds confidence to campaign

Underneath, the Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak racer features custom Moton coilovers engineered by suspension expert Mike Kojima, as well as new EVS Tuning anti-roll bars. Krontec air jacks allow for quick tire changes, while braking is handled by CounterSpace Garage brake pads and Endless brake fluid. The car is protected by a six-point roll cage from Eimer Engineering and finished with Hyundai’s N Division racing livery.

At the wheel will be Rob Walker, a driver already familiar with the Ioniq 5 N. He recently purchased one as a personal vehicle and has been testing it extensively at Buttonwillow Raceway. Walker’s track experience and growing seat time behind the wheel give Evasive a strong edge in the EV class this year.

The 2025 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb si expected to take place on June 22, 2025.
