Tesla’s Next-Generation Roadster With its New Production Date Was Confirmed By CEO Elon Musk During The Company’s Q2 2024 Earnings Call

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reaffirmed the company’s goal of bringing the long-awaited next-generation Roadster electric vehicle (EV) to market, announcing during Tesla’s Q2 2024 earnings call that production is expected to start in 2025.
Tesla first unveiled the new Roadster as a prototype in 2017, but has faced numerous delays, with its initial 2020 production target pushed back year after year. However, Musk’s latest update has rekindled hope among Tesla enthusiasts and reservation holders.
“With respect to Roadster, we’ve completed most of the engineering,” Musk stated during the Q2 2024 earnings call. “And I think there’s still some upgrades we want to make to it, but we expect to be in production with Roadster next year. It will be something special.”

The next-gen Roadster was initially announced with unique specifications including a 0 to 60 mph time of 1.99 seconds, a top speed exceeding 250 mph, and a range of 620 miles on a single charge. However, with advancements in EV technology since its unveiling including achievements by Tesla’s own Model S Plaid, expectations for the Roadster’s performance have only grown.

Musk has previously hinted at even more ambitious targets for the production model including a potential sub-1-second 0-60 mph time. He expressed the need for the Roadster to surpass the performance of Tesla’s existing lineup. He also teased a “SpaceX Package” for the model, suggesting a collaboration between his automotive and aerospace ventures to push the boundaries of EV performance.
While the production timeline has been set for 2025, Tesla has yet to reveal an updated version of the Roadster design, which is now seven years old. Musk had previously mentioned that a new unveiling would take place by the end of this year, but no specific date has been announced.
With reservations still open at a $50,000 deposit, anticipation still remains for what Musk promises will be “something special” when it rolls off the production line in 2025.
