The European Commission’s New Deadline Decision Has Been Postpone Until After The European Parliament Elections On June 9

China is currently calling on Spain to exercise its influence within the European Union (EU) to facilitate cooperation and ensure fairness in the evolving new energy industry as the EU investigates Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) through the European Commission (EC) according to Reuters.
Wang Wentao, China’s Minister of Commerce, expressed the significance of collaboration and a conducive development environment during discussions with Spanish officials. These remarks are also particularly addressing the need to safeguard global joint efforts to combat climate change and the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership according to Reuters.
Furthermore, the country is also pushing efforts to encourage Spain to convince the EU to keep an open mindset on China’s ventures in green energy solutions and initiatives. Despite this, the EC’s ongoing investigation into Chinese EVs has reached a point of contention between the two. As a response, Wang condemned the probe, labeling it as protectionist and asserting that it undermines global efforts to address climate change.
Since the EC’s investigation from last year in October, Chinese EVs have been making headlines with massive responses being recorded as the United States making the biggest headline as it quadruples tariffs on Chinese EVs among other aspects including China’s solar cells and batteries.
As the EC announced a postponement of its decision until after the European Parliament elections on June 9, China has not remained silent as it established a mechanism to address concerns raised by foreign-funded enterprises operating within its borders.
With China encountering several obstacles in its goal, it aims to engage in constructive dialogue with international partners including the EU and Spain will potentially reshape its path with less severe damages and create more understandings to foster a mutually beneficial environment for trade and cooperation in the new energy sector.
