This New Milestone For California Aligns With Its Goal For All New Car Sales To Be Zero-Emission By 2035

With fast-charging infrastructure on the rise in the United States (U.S.), California has now reached a new milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) industry as there is now one fast-charging station for every five gas stations.
The news first was announced by Governor Gavin Newsom who celebrated this new achievement during Earth Week. As a result, the new achievement highlights the state’s dedication to continue building fast-charging stations to accommodate the rising number of EV owners.
California also has further plans to build more zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) since Governor Newsom’s executive order back in 2020. This mandates all new car sales to be zero-emission by 2035. As a result, the progress since the announcement of the mandate has led to 25% of new vehicle purchases in California being EVs. In broader terms of ZEVs, accurately more than 1.84 million ZEVs sold since then.
With around 105,000 public or shared private EV chargers installed across the state, there is also further approval of a $1.9 billion plan to increase charging stations in California. Through these many initiatives, California’s goal to create a lead in EV infrastructure compared to other states is becoming a reality.
Governor Newsom expressed his thoughts in a post on his X account regarding California supporting the foster of EV infrastructure growth stating, “We want to maintain that leadership, maintain that dominance, as we transition from dirty tailpipes to a low-carbon, green growth future.”

Notably, companies like Tesla previously opened up its Supercharger network which further improves the country’s expansion of EV charging stations as well as allows other branded EVs access to its charging network. With actions like this, EV charging infrastructure will steadily increase as many hands are contributing to California’s goal.
In terms of EV sales in California, the state represents 33.8% of U.S. EV sales. With these statistics, EVs are leading the charge to prove California’s plan for zero-emission and as the number of EVs are increasing in the state, the need for more charging stations will become more increasingly important.
With California leading the charge in expanding EV charging stations, the action will lead to influencing more people in the public to adopt EVs as charging convenience and accessibility are becoming easier. Through California’s perspective on EV adoption, the EV adoption influence followed by other states will be noticed.
