The publication praised the SUV’s engineering, range, charging performance, and luxury features, selecting it over competitors from Audi, Porsche, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and Honda.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ has been awarded the 2026 MotorTrend SUV of the Year, marking a major milestone in Cadillac’s push to reclaim its reputation as “the Standard of the World.” The publication praised the SUV’s engineering, range, charging performance, and luxury features, selecting it over competitors from Audi, Porsche, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and Honda. The win positions the Escalade IQ as one of the most advanced full-size electric SUVs on the market.
MotorTrend drew parallels between the Escalade IQ and Cadillac’s historic innovation streak, including the brand’s influential 1949 Car of the Year. The publication highlighted the SUV’s massive 205-kWh battery pack feeding dual permanent-magnet motors that deliver up to 750 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. Its dual-voltage architecture supports high-speed charging up to 352 kW in testing, allowing it to efficiently tap into both legacy and modern charging networks.
The Escalade IQ impressed in MotorTrend’s real-world 70-mph Road-Trip Range test, covering 415 miles, one of the strongest results in the full-size EV segment, according to GM Authority. Charging performance was another standout: the SUV added 149 miles in 15 minutes, 262 miles in 30 minutes, and 341 miles in 45 minutes, with a 5–80% session clocking in at 42 minutes. These metrics helped distinguish the model from rivals like the Audi Q6/SQ6 E-Tron and Porsche Macan Electric.

Beyond straight-line performance, the Escalade IQ earned praise for its ride quality and handling. Four-wheel steering, air springs, and Magneride dampers delivered agility MotorTrend described as better than even smaller EVs, including the Tesla Model Y. Editors also highlighted strong braking feel, an ultra-quiet cabin, and ample cargo space.
Inside, MotorTrend gave high marks to the expansive display setup and GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous system, calling it segment-leading. Criticisms were mostly minor, including a clunky second-row seat mechanism, lack of phone mirroring, and some torque steer under hard acceleration. Ultimately, the publication concluded that the Escalade IQ delivers more luxury and more range than cheaper rivals while outperforming higher-priced competitors.
