BYD has exported electric vehicles from its Thailand plant to Europe for the first time, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy. More than 900 BYD Dolphin EVs were loaded onto the company’s Zhengzhou car carrier and dispatched to the UK, Germany, and Belgium.

BYD’s Thailand plant achieves new milestone

The shipment comes just over a year after BYD opened its manufacturing facility in the WHA Rayong 36 Industrial Estate on July 4, 2024. The site, spanning nearly 960,000 square meters, has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles and represents BYD’s first wholly-owned passenger vehicle factory outside China.

BYD’s Thai subsidiary has already delivered 90,000 new energy vehicles locally since launch, highlighting the plant’s role in expanding the brand’s global footprint, according to CNEV Post.

Overseas demand continues to rise

The Europe-bound Dolphins were transported aboard the BYD Zhengzhou, one of the company’s growing fleet of car carriers. This voyage marks the vessel’s first trip from Thailand to Europe, further strengthening BYD’s global supply chain and maritime logistics system.

Despite softer month-on-month sales in July, BYD’s overseas performance remained strong, with 80,737 units sold abroad, up 169% from a year earlier. The Thailand export push suggests BYD is positioning its regional manufacturing to meet Europe’s growing appetite for affordable EVs.
