New data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association showed BYD’s registrations surged more than 220 percent year over year, while Tesla’s fell nearly 12 percent.

BYD continued its rapid expansion in Europe in November, posting triple-digit registration growth that sharply contrasted with the ongoing slowdown of Tesla. New data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association showed BYD’s registrations surged more than 220 percent year over year, while Tesla’s fell nearly 12 percent, underscoring a shifting competitive landscape in the region’s EV market.
According to ACEA data covering the EU plus the UK and EFTA markets, BYD registered 21,133 new vehicles in Europe in November, up 221.8 percent from 6,568 units a year earlier. The surge brought BYD close to Tesla’s total of 22,801 registrations for the month, even as Tesla posted an 11.8 percent year-over-year decline from 25,840 units.
Within the European Union alone, BYD’s growth was even more pronounced. The Chinese automaker registered 16,158 vehicles in the EU during November, representing a 235.2 percent increase compared with 4,821 units in the same month last year. Tesla, meanwhile, registered 12,130 vehicles in the EU, down 34.2 percent from 18,430 units a year earlier, according to CNEV Post.
The figures highlight BYD’s accelerating momentum as it expands its European footprint with a broader lineup of electric models, while Tesla faces mounting pressure amid intensifying competition and softer demand across key markets.

From January through November, BYD’s total European registrations reached 159,869 units, a 276.0 percent increase from 42,517 units during the same period last year. Tesla still maintained a larger cumulative total at 203,382 registrations, but that figure marked a 28.0 percent decline from 282,335 units over the first 11 months of the prior year.
The divergence was even clearer within the EU market. BYD registered 110,715 vehicles in the bloc between January and November, up 240.0 percent year over year. Tesla’s EU registrations over the same period totaled 129,024 units, representing a steep 38.8 percent drop from 210,869 units last year.
While Tesla continues to hold a numerical lead in Europe year to date, BYD’s growth trajectory suggests the gap is narrowing quickly. The latest data underscores how aggressively BYD is gaining ground in overseas markets as European consumers weigh an expanding range of EV options.
