BMW is discontinuing the iX in the U.S. market as sales decline, with the model set to be replaced by the next-generation iX3 built on its new EV platform.

The move follows a sharp drop in deliveries, as the iX struggled to keep pace with rivals like Cadillac’s Lyriq despite a recent refresh and strong performance specs.

BMW iX exits U.S. as sales decline against Cadillac Lyriq

The BMW iX is being phased out of the U.S., even as production continues for other regions. BMW delivered 12,587 iX units in the U.S. in 2025, down 18% year-over-year, with Q1 2026 deliveries falling further to 3,626 units—a steep 50% decline.

By comparison, the Cadillac Lyriq recorded 20,971 deliveries in 2025, though it also saw a 26% drop from the previous year. In Q1 2026, Lyriq deliveries reached 3,370 units, down 21% year-over-year, indicating broader softness in the premium EV SUV segment, according to GM Authority.

Despite competitive specs, the iX faced pricing challenges. The model starts at $76,600, significantly higher than the Lyriq’s $64,495 base price. Even performance trims like the iX M70—producing up to 650 horsepower—entered a more expensive bracket compared to Cadillac’s Lyriq-V, limiting its appeal among value-conscious luxury EV buyers.

Neue Klasse iX3 set to replace iX with lower cost and longer range

BMW is preparing to replace the iX with the next-generation BMW iX3, built on its Neue Klasse EV architecture and powered by Gen6 eDrive technology. The upcoming model is expected to arrive in 2027, signaling a major shift in BMW’s electric strategy.

The iX3 50 xDrive variant is projected to deliver around 463 horsepower, paired with a 108 kWh battery and an estimated 400-mile EPA range—significantly improving efficiency and range over the outgoing iX. Pricing is expected to start near $60,000, positioning it closer to mainstream luxury competitors.

Unlike the iX, which competed more directly with the Lyriq, the iX3 is expected to align more closely with smaller, more affordable EV SUVs such as Cadillac’s upcoming Optiq.

With the transition to Neue Klasse, BMW is betting on a new generation of EVs to regain momentum in a competitive and price-sensitive market.
