Audi AUDI E7X Sets SUV Lap Record, Beating Tesla Model Y and Porsche Macan Electric

Audi’s China-exclusive AUDI brand has set a new SUV lap record with its upcoming E7X, signaling a strong performance push ahead of its official debut.

The all-electric SUV clocked a 1:47.93 lap at the Baijun Mountain Ridge Track, beating rivals including the Porsche Macan Electric, Tesla Model Y, and Xiaomi YU7. The result underscores Audi’s deepening localization strategy in China through its AUDI sub-brand.

AUDI E7X sets benchmark lap time against key EV rivals

The AUDI E7X became the fastest SUV to complete the 2.4-kilometer Baijun Mountain Ridge Track, a technically demanding circuit featuring 31 corners and significant elevation changes. Its 1:47.93 lap time placed it ahead of the Porsche Macan 4 (1:49.09) and Xiaomi YU7 Max (1:52.23), with the Tesla Model Y (2025) trailing further behind at 1:53.82.

The performance is supported by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 500 kW, alongside advanced chassis systems including all-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, and continuously adjustable dampers. Audi noted the E7X underwent testing across more than 800 development scenarios, highlighting its focus on dynamic capability as a differentiator in China’s crowded EV SUV segment.

China-focused AUDI brand expands lineup ahead of Beijing debut

The AUDI brand, a joint effort between Volkswagen and SAIC Motor, represents a localized strategy tailored specifically for Chinese consumers. Notably, AUDI models omit the traditional four-ring badge, marking a distinct identity from global Audi offerings.

The E7X follows the earlier AUDI E5 Sportback and is expected to deliver up to 750 kilometers of range under China’s CLTC standard. Its official premiere is scheduled for April 24 at the Beijing Auto Show 2026, where it will compete for attention in an increasingly performance-driven EV market.

With strong early performance credentials and a clear focus on localization, the E7X positions AUDI as a serious contender among China’s next-generation electric SUVs.
