Chevrolet has released a new question-and-answer video featuring 2027 Chevy Bolt Chief Engineer Jeremy Short, who discusses several of the biggest decisions behind the next-generation electric hatchback.
The 12-minute video addresses topics ranging from the Bolt’s limited production run and technology choices to charging features, Super Cruise, and cabin design.
One of the biggest questions from fans centered on why the redesigned Bolt will only be offered for the 2027 model year.
According to Short, customer demand played a major role in bringing the Bolt back after production of the original Bolt EV and Bolt EUV ended following the 2023 model year. He said Chevrolet received significant feedback from owners, including letters sent directly to company leadership requesting a successor, according to GM Authority.
Rather than leaving the nameplate behind, Chevrolet decided to bring back the Bolt with a series of upgrades while making it available for a limited production run.
The new generation builds on the popularity of the original Bolt while incorporating updated technology and features developed since the first model left production.
Another frequently asked question involved Chevrolet’s decision not to include Apple CarPlay in the new Bolt.
Instead, the vehicle relies on Google’s Built-In operating system, a strategy General Motors has adopted across its latest electric vehicles. According to Short, the integrated platform enables EV-specific functions that extend beyond smartphone mirroring.
For example, when drivers select a DC fast charger as their destination, the navigation system can automatically begin preconditioning the battery to optimize charging performance upon arrival. The system also provides battery insights and route planning tailored specifically for electric vehicle travel.
The video also addresses several other engineering decisions, including the choice to use a column-mounted shifter, the availability of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, motor torque output, dash cam functionality, and other features requested by prospective buyers.
The Q&A offers one of the most detailed looks yet at the thinking behind Chevrolet’s latest Bolt as the automaker prepares to reintroduce one of its most recognizable electric vehicles.
