The 2026 Nissan Leaf now features a new SUV-like body style with its third generation. It also now offers 303 miles of range in its most efficient trim, as well as faster charging capabilities.

According to Car and Driver, the Nissan Leaf is expected to start in the mid-$30,000s when it goes on sale later this year, allowing it to be one of the more compelling EVs in the market today.

Leaf’s Transformation and Performance Enhancements

The Leaf’s new design, shorter by 3.0 inches at 173.4 inches and with a 105.9-inch wheelbase, features a sloping fastback roofline and a 0.26 drag coefficient, improving aerodynamics from the previous 0.29.

Its 75-kWh battery, paired with a 214-hp front-mounted motor, offers up to 303 miles of range in the S+ trim, surpassing competitors like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV, which max at 260 and 253 miles, respectively. Nissan is expected to introduce a more affordable variant with a 52 kWh battery pack later on as well, as per Car and Driver.

The Leaf’s 150-kW DC fast charging system would be appreciated by buyers, especially since the vehicle is equipped with a native NACS port. Interestingly enough, the new Leaf also features a J1772 port, providing owners with ample charging options.

Design and Technology Upgrades

Inside, the Leaf’s modern cabin features 14.3-inch screens on the vehicle’s SV+ and Platinum+ trims with Google apps and a 360-degree camera, while all models include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as Nissan stated. Images posted by Nissan show the Leaf’s bright interior, thanks to its light-colored seats.

The new Leaf also adopts Nissan’s “2-3” design motif, referencing “ni-san” in Japanese. This motif appears throughout the vehicle, from its lighting to its wheels. The Platinum+ trim also offers an electrically dimming panoramic roof, which adds a touch of class to the EV. Nissan’s driver-assistance tech,  which includes automatic emergency braking, enhances safety as well.
