Xiaomi has shocked the automotive landscape by unveiling its SU7 Ultra, a high-performance electric vehicle (EV) that aims to set new benchmarks in the hypercar market. This latest iteration of Xiaomi’s SU7 line arrives with jaw-dropping specifications that could make it the fastest four-door EV in the market.

In terms of performance, the SU7 Ultra is powered by three electric motors: two of Xiaomi’s new V8s electric motors and one V6s electric motor. As a result, this delivers a combined output of 1548 horsepower. This tremendous power allows the EV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.97 seconds and is capable of reaching 124 mph in 5.96 seconds. As for its top speed, it can reach 217 mph according to Xiaomi.

Despite its performance specs, the SU7 Ultra maintains a relatively modest weight of 1900 kg (4188 lbs) due to its extensive use of carbon fiber body panels. The EV’s aerodynamics have been optimized for track performance, featuring a large rear wing capable of generating 2145 kg (4728 lbs) of downforce.

Notably, the SU7 Ultra utilizes CATL’s new Qilin II battery, which Xiaomi claims can charge from zero to full in just 12 minutes when connected to a sufficiently powerful 897V charger. The battery is said to be capable of outputting over 800 kW (1072 horsepower) even at 20% state of charge, potentially allowing for extended track sessions.

Interestingly, Xiaomi has set its sights on the Nürburgring, which is aiming to break the current four-door EV lap record of 7 minutes and 7 seconds held by the Porsche Taycan. Moreover, the company plans to attempt this record in October 2024, with even more goals for 2025.

While the SU7 Ultra is currently labeled as a prototype, its reveal follows the successful launch of the standard SU7 model in China. The base SU7, priced at around $30,000, has already garnered significant interest with a reported 50,000 orders and a seven-month waiting list. Furthermore, the company also previously stated plans to introduce an SUV resembling Tesla Model Y with production aimed for as early as 2025.

As Xiaomi ventures further into the automotive landscape with EVs in mind the SU7 Ultra certainly stands out as a bold statement of the company’s EV technology and ambitions. Whether this high-performance EV will make it to production and potentially reach markets beyond China remains to be seen, yet its reveal signals a new step into Xiaomi’s journey in the EV industry.
