Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz GTX comes with a top speed checked at 99 mph

Volkswagen is electrifying its iconic Microbus with the ID.Buzz GTX, a dual-motor electric van boasting 335 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). While the GTX badge will be exclusive to Europe, the U.S. market will get a version of the electric vehicle (EV) van equipped with the same powerful AWD powertrain.
The ID.Buzz GTX also joins Volkswagen’s lineup of sporty EVs, following in the footsteps of the recently revealed ID.3 GTX hot hatch and ID.7 GTX Tourer. With its robust powertrain and distinctive design elements, the ID.Buzz GTX promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience while paying homage to its legendary predecessor.

Under the hood of the ID.Buzz GTX lies a dual-motor configuration, with a 107-horsepower motor on the front axle and a 282-horsepower motor powering the rear wheels. This setup gives optimal traction and performance in various driving conditions, making it ideal for both urban commuting and long-distance travel.
The ID. Buzz GTX also comes with extra power and the advanced 4MOTION drive system, which makes an increase in maximum trailer weight capacity. The standard wheelbase version can pull up to over 3,900 lbs and the long wheelbase variant handling can pull up to over 3,500 lbs, with both models seeing significant improvements of an increase of over 1700 lbs and over 1300 lbs. Particularly, the 4MOTION system delivers great traction, especially on wet or loose surfaces. This makes it an ideal choice for towing trailers.

The electric van will be available in Europe with two battery options—a 79.0-kWh unit or an 86.0-kWh pack—providing ample range for daily use. Additionally, fast-charging capabilities allow for rapid replenishment, with both batteries capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes at DC fast-charging stations.

While the GTX badging will be reserved for European models, the U.S.-bound ID.Buzz AWD will feature similar performance specs and the latest advanced technology. Moreover, Volkswagen of America has confirmed that the AWD model will come with the same powerful drivetrain, offering a taste of the electrified Microbus experience.

The ID.Buzz GTX exudes a sporty and dynamic presence, with custom bumpers and black body elements adding a fierce touch. As for the interior, the cabin is appointed with GTX-specific seats featuring red accents including Volkswagen’s latest infotainment system with voice assistant integration.
There are also flexible luggage space options to offer, catering to different needs and configurations. In its standard wheelbase five-seater setup, the luggage compartment volume ranges from 1,121 to 2,123 liters, depending on the rear seat arrangement. The extended version provides up to 1,340 liters, expanding to 2,469 liters when loaded to the first-row seats. In addition, the GTX models offer versatility with options for both long and short Multiflex boards with two folding boxes, creating a secondary loading level and a flat load area when the rear seats are folded down.

The ID.Buzz GTX will go on sale in Europe later in the year while the U.S. release will have more details about the AWD model closer to its on-sale date this fall. As Volkswagen continues to expand its lineup of electrified vehicles, the ID.Buzz GTX represents a bold step towards a greener and more sustainable future. Furthermore, its combination of performance, versatility, and iconic design, the ID.Buzz GTX can be a fan-favourite and redefine the electric van segment around the world.
