Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) has reported a significant boost in sales for its Solterra electric vehicle (EV) model, marking a 55% year-over-year increase in August 2024.
According to Subaru, the company sold 1,417 Solterra units last month, compared to 915 in August 2023, achieving its best August performance ever for the electric vehicle (EV).
The strong August performance contributes to an impressive year-to-date total of 8,063 Solterras sold, representing a substantial 74% jump from the 4,645 units sold during the same period in 2023.
Notably, the Solterra was the most discounted car in the U.S. market in August, with prices starting at $46,340 but selling for as low as $40,800 – a 12% reduction from the MSRP. Attractive lease offers, starting at $329 per month for 36 months with $0 down, have also contributed to the model’s popularity.
Furthermore, the 2024 Solterra model received significant upgrades including faster charging capabilities and new features, which have likely influenced buyer decisions.
The company’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the Crosstrek, also experienced significant growth, with August sales jumping nearly 47% year-over-year, from 13,920 to 20,396 units.
As for Subaru’s overall sales, it has shown positive trends, with the company reporting 63,053 units of sales for August 2024, an 11.8% increase compared to the same month last year. Year-to-date sales reached 437,198, marking a 6.4% increase over 2023.
Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc., commented on the success: “August marked our 25th consecutive month of growth thanks to Subaru retailers nationwide. Their dedication to being a trusted partner in the vehicle journey remains an important part of keeping our customers satisfied.”
Subaru plans to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports for its EVs in 2025, with current customers set to receive adapters to access the Tesla Supercharger network.
With Subaru tracking good results with its EVs including its Solterra model, the company will be in a solid position to further enhance the appeal of its EV offerings in the coming years.
