In a bold move to lead the luxury automotive segment into electric mobility, Rolls-Royce has announced plans to launch two new all-electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming years, including a full-size SUV and a flagship sedan.

Expanding on the Spectre’s Success

The British ultra-luxury brand kicked off its electrification efforts in 2023 with the launch of the Spectre, its first-ever battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Now, Rolls-Royce is doubling down on its EV strategy, aiming to have a fully electric lineup by the end of the decade.

According to Automotive News, the Spectre’s successor will be an electric SUV, slated to debut in early 2027. While smaller than the current Cullinan, the new electric SUV will still fall into the full-size category. Following the electric SUV in late 2028 will be an electric sedan, which is expected to replace the iconic Phantom model.

This aggressive electrification plan puts Rolls-Royce ahead of its ultra-luxury competitors, such as Bentley, which has delayed the launch of its first EV until 2026. In contrast, Rolls-Royce remains steadfast in its commitment to go all-electric by 2030, winding down combustion engine models by the end of 2031.

“It’s silent, super torquey … and delivers in an even better way that magic carpet ride that Rolls-Royce customers expect,” former Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said of the brand’s electric propulsion.

Despite this transition, Rolls-Royce’s iconic V-12 engines will continue to play a role in the near-to-mid term. More than 60% of the brand’s global sales in Q1 2024 were V-12-powered models. “We’ve not fallen out of love with V-12, and we’ll invest in it to meet new requirements,” Müller-Ötvös told Autocar last year.

Upcoming Launches and Refreshes

In the meantime, Rolls-Royce is set to unveil a Black Badge performance version of the Spectre next year, followed by a mid-cycle refresh of the electric coupe in 2027. The brand’s bestselling Cullinan crossover will also receive a freshening in the coming year.

As the luxury automotive landscape evolves, Rolls-Royce’s bold push into electrification positions the brand as a leader, ready to cater to the changing demands of its discerning buyers in the EV market.
