Rivian has announced that it will introduce video streaming in its electric vehicles (EVs) with the YouTube app and Google Cast on its R1S and R1T models. These new features added to Rivian’s R1S and R1T will deliver a more immersive experience in its infotainment system.
Rivian’s enhancement of its entertainment experience in its existing R1S and R1T marks the company’s ongoing efforts to improve its infotainment system with the integration of YouTube and Google Cast, where Rivian owners will receive an array of multimedia content through its 15-inch touchscreen and audio system.
In terms of YouTube, Rivian will add the app to its center display, where the YouTube tab will be seen within the new Video Application. Rivian owners will have control over playback through the display screen with the options to play, pause, or skip ahead using the large touchscreen. Moreover, Rivian owners’ watching experience will not be disrupted during texts or phone calls. Importantly, the video will pause due to safety concerns when you start to drive the Rivian EV.
As for Google Cast, Rivian owners can use this feature through either their phones or tablet with the Rivian EV appearing as a casting option and the app’s video will appear on the infotainment display. Controls over playback are the same as the YouTube app feature with its safety features included as well. Furthermore, the Google Cast feature will only work if the Rivian EV is parked with the phone or tablet connected to its Wi-Fi hotspot. With the addition of Google Cast, Rivian owners can now enjoy a diverse range of Cast-enabled applications, including streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and HBO Max.
The introduction of YouTube integration and Google Cast capabilities highlights Rivian’s dedication to improving the overall driving experience by leveraging innovative technologies while fostering strategic partnerships with Google and YouTube to set new standards for the EV market. As Rivian prepares to deliver these updates through over-the-air (OTA) updates on its R1T and R1S, Rivian owners can look forward to these features in the coming months.
