Nyobolt’s Patented Carbon And Metal Oxide Anode Materials Ensure Up to 600,000 Miles Battery Life

Cambridge-based company Nyobolt has showcased a prototype EV capable of charging from 10% to 80% in less than five minutes. In collaboration with CALLUM, this represents a major leap forward in innovating the charging time for EVs.
The Nyobolt EV, weighing just 1,250 kg (2755 lbs), arrives with a 35 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 155 miles on a full charge. Notably, the first four minutes of charging can add 120 miles of range, which doubles the speed of current fast-charging EVs. This ultra-fast charging capability is made possible by Nyobolt’s innovative battery technology, which utilizes next-generation patented carbon and metal oxide anode materials.

Dr. Sai Shivareddy, Nyobolt’s co-founder and CEO, expressed the sustainability aspect of the EV technology stating, “Our low impedance cells ensure we can offer sustainability, stretching out the battery’s usable life for up to 600,000 miles in the case of our technology demonstrator.”

Nyobolt’s EV technology is also not merely limited to new EVs. The company suggests that its battery architecture could also be retrofitted to existing EV platforms, potentially revolutionizing the current EV market by greatly reducing charge times and improving battery life. Interestingly, Nyobolt is already discussing with eight vehicle OEMs and plans to deploy its EV technology in robotics and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Shane Davies, Nyobolt’s director of vehicle battery systems, expressed the potential impact its EV technology can have on the automotive landscape stating, “Nyobolt is removing the obstacle of slow and inconvenient charging, making electrification appealing and accessible to those who don’t have the time for lengthy charging times or space for a home charger.”

As Nyobolt aims to start low-volume production within a year, the company plans to scale up to 1,000 battery packs by 2025. Their flexible manufacturing model could potentially produce up to two million cells per year. By addressing concerns about charging time and battery longevity in the EV industry, Nyobolt’s EV technology will contribute to the acceleration of the transition to electric mobility.
