Ford’s Update Brings Google Maps EV Routing To F-150 Lightning And Mustang Mach-E

Ford has begun deploying a significant software update for its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, bringing enhanced Google Maps EV routing capabilities to the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E through Android Auto.

The update, which was first announced at CES 2024, marks a major improvement in navigation features for Android users following the implementation of Apple Maps EV routing last September.

Key Features of the Update

Ford product manager Anthony Phillips announced the rollout on LinkedIn, detailing several key features that will enhance the EV driving experience. The update introduces comprehensive trip planning capabilities, including estimated battery levels at destinations, suggested charging stops, and charging duration estimates based on real-time vehicle data.

Tesla Supercharger Integration

A notable addition is the integration of Tesla Supercharger locations into the navigation system, allowing Ford EV owners to locate compatible charging stations when using an adapter. The update also includes intelligent features such as automatic battery preconditioning when approaching DC fast-charging stations and real-time visibility of available chargers along planned routes.

“Our team saw an opportunity to provide customers with an end-to-end EV routing experience in Google Maps, and we’re proud to work with Google to make it happen,” Phillips stated. The new functionality also includes the ability to view Plug and Charge EV stations along routes, a feature that was announced in February.

How to Access the New Features

To access these new features, Ford F-150 Lightning and Mach-E owners will need to complete two steps: install the latest Ford software update on their vehicles and ensure they have the most recent version of Google Maps installed on their smartphones.
