Ford’s Cologne Plant Starts Production with All-Electric Explorer In Europe

Ford is setting a new standard and making new achievements in its electric vehicle (EV) production in Europe as its first all-electric Explorer model rolls off the assembly line at the Ford Cologne Electric Vehicle Center.

Ford’s all-electric Explorer rolling off the assembly line follows a $2 billion investment that has reshaped the manufacturing plant to possess a new generation of cutting-edge production capabilities to produce its EV models. In elaboration, the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center now comes with advanced artificial intelligence and a sophisticated network of robots with over 600 of them performing various tasks to produce EVs according to Ford.

Furthermore, the all-electric Ford Explorer arrives with over 600 km (around 372 miles) estimated range on a single charge, marking Ford’s commitment to sustainability through its goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its European production footprint, including facilities, logistics, and direct suppliers, by 2035.

In regards to the changes in Ford’s Cologne Electric Vehicle Center, Kieran Cahill, vice president of manufacturing, Ford in Europe and International Markets Group, expressed enthusiasm for the transformation stating, “To see the Cologne factory founded by Ford in 1930 being transformed into a state-of-the-art electric vehicle production facility is nothing short of amazing. The start of mass production of electric vehicles, with the new all-electric Explorer, marks the beginning of a new era for Ford in Europe.”

As production for the all-electric Explorer model starts, Ford is extending its efforts in expanding its EV lineup with the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center further solidifying its position in Europe for selling EVs.
