BYD Showcases Seal 06 GT At Chengdu Auto Show With Starting Price Around $21,000

BYD has debuted its latest Seal 06 GT electric vehicle (EV) at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show with a starting price of 150,000 yuan (around $21,150), positioned as the world’s first rear-wheel-drive (RWD) electric performance hatchback.

The Seal 06 GT is built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0 Evo, which includes “the world’s first full scenario intelligent pulse self-heating technology.” This innovative EV technology reportedly reduces charging times by 40%, even in cold conditions.

Available in both single- and dual-motor configurations, the top-tier dual-motor version delivers a combined 310 kW (415 horsepower) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The EV offers two battery options: 59.52 kWh and 72.96 kWh. As a result, it provides CLTC ranges of up to 605 km (375 miles).

BYD has emphasized the EV’s charging capabilities, stating that it can charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, thanks to its 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform. In addition, the final 20% of charging (from 80% to 100%) takes only 18 minutes, addressing a common pain point for electric vehicle owners.

Aesthetically, the Seal 06 GT features a sleek, modern design with simple lines and a low-sitting silhouette. The interior is equally unique, showcasing BYD’s latest smart technology. It includes a 15.6-inch floating center infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch driver display, and a 12-inch head-up display. The advanced DiLink 100 intelligent cockpit system supports 3D vehicle management and comprehensive voice control.

Notably, BYD has expressed interest in launching the BYD Seal 06 GT in the European market. However, the new implementation of tariffs on Chinese EVs in Europe could impact the company’s plans for the market as it faces a 17% tariff rate on its EVs.

The Seal 06 GT is expected to launch in China by the end of September 2024, with international sales projected to start in early 2025.
