BYD Launches Affordable “Vitality Edition” Yuan Up EV With Over 250 Miles Of Range

BYD has introduced a new trim of its Yuan Up electric SUV with the new “Vitality Edition” model, priced at RMB 99,800 (around $13,750), which bridges the gap between affordability and performance in an electric vehicle (EV).

According to BYD, the Vitality Edition delivers an estimated range of 401 km (250 miles), a major increase from the base model’s 301 km (187 miles). This extended range arrives at a modest price increase of just RMB 3,000 ($400) over the entry-level trim, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious EV buyers looking for longer-range models.

Powered by BYD’s 45.12 kWh Blade battery pack, the new trim utilizes the company’s Cell to Body (CTB) technology. It features a single 70 kW (94 horsepower) electric motor generating 180 Nm of torque, allowing an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 12.9 seconds. While not the fastest in its class, the Yuan Up Vitality Edition prioritizes efficiency and urban practicality instead.

In terms of build, the Vitality Edition maintains the same dimensions as other Yuan Up models, measuring 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. As for the interior, it possesses modern amenities including an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, a 10.1-inch central control touchscreen, and a head-up display. Standard features also include wireless phone charging, a crystal gear shift knob, and over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities.

As of now, BYD’s expansion of the Yuan Up line includes the Yuan Plus and Yuan Pro, which continue to perform strongly in the Chinese market. Notably, BYD saw 36,222 Yuan family EVs sold in June 2024, making it the third best-selling BYD model. Moreover, BYD’s expansion plans with the latest inauguration of its Thailand plant and celebration of 8 million EVs produced are making headlines.
