Alpine has opened orders for its A290 electric vehicle (EV) in Germany and France. The electric hot hatch, based on the Renault 5 platform, is set to hit the market with a starting price of €38,700 ($41,828).

According to Alpine, the A290 lineup contains four main trims: GT, GT Premium, GT Performance, and GTS. All models feature a 52 kWh battery, with power outputs ranging from 130 kW (175 horsepower) in the base GT model to 160 kW (215 horsepower) in the higher-end Performance and GTS trims.

In terms of the most powerful trim, it has an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. It also maintains practicality with five doors, seating for five, and a 326-liter cargo capacity.

With design elements inspired by Formula 1 and the brand’s A110 sports car, the EV comes in a muscular stance, wider track, and distinctive lighting signature featuring a double X motif reminiscent of rally car headlights.

The entry-level A290 GT comes well-equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, Michelin Sport EV tires, heated front seats, and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen featuring Google Automotive Services. Moving up the range, the GT Premium priced at €41,700 ($45,079), adds two-tone paintwork, Alpine Blue brake calipers, and a Devialet high-fidelity audio system.

For the performance trims, the GT Performance priced at €41,900 ($45,295) and GTS priced at €44,700 ($48,300), offer increased power output, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, and the Alpine Telemetrics system for monitoring and optimizing vehicle performance.

Since Alpine fully revealed its A290 back in June, Alpine is releasing a limited “Première Édition” series, restricted to 1,955 units in honor of the brand’s founding year. Based on the top-spec GTS trim, this special edition is priced at €46,200 ($49,950) and features exclusive design elements and badging.

Despite its premium positioning, the A290 qualifies for a €4,000 ($4,325) government rebate in France and the company also offers leasing options starting from €290 per month.

As Alpine’s first step into the electric mobility, the A290 combining the company’s racing heritage with modern electric technology is set to capture EV enthusiasts. Deliveries of the A290 are projected to start later this year.
