XPeng Motors has expanded its X9 Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) lineup with the introduction of a new, technologically advanced electric vehicle (EV) variant dubbed the X9 610 Max.

Advanced Features and Technology

According to XPeng, the X9 610 Max sets itself apart from its predecessors with the inclusion of two LiDAR sensors, enabling XPeng’s Navigation Guided Pilot (XNGP), which is one of the most advanced self-driving technologies available in the market. This addition is particularly noteworthy as it contrasts with XPeng’s recent move towards pure-vision cameras in its P7+ BEV model.

In addition to the dual LiDAR setup, the new variant contains enhanced intelligent driving hardware. It features two NVIDIA Drive Orin chips, delivering an impressive 508 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) of computing power. This is a significant upgrade from the single Orin chip with 254 TOPS found in the 610 Pro version.

Pricing and Availability

The X9 610 Max is now available in China with a starting price of RMB 379,800 ($54,090). This positions it RMB 20,000 higher than the entry-level X9 610 Pro but on par with the X9 702 Max. To incentivize early adopters, XPeng is offering a limited-time discount of RMB 20,000 ($2,850) for customers who purchase the new variant before October 4.

X9 MPV Lineup and Performance

The X9, which debuted in January 2024, is XPeng’s sixth all-electric model and the first to utilize the company’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA) 2.0. The MPV lineup now includes five variants, offering CLTC ranges between 610km and 702 km (379 miles to 436 miles).

Market Impact and Competition

The introduction of the X9 610 Max demonstrates XPeng’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries in the EV market. The advanced features of this new variant, particularly the XNGP capabilities, position it as a strong competitor in the high-end electric MPV segment.

Interestingly, the X9 has attracted attention from industry peers. William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of rival company NIO, recently became an X9 owner. XPeng’s chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, personally delivered a silver X9 to Li in Hefei, Anhui province, on May 11, marking Li’s first purchase of an EV from another brand in eight years.

As XPeng continues to innovate and expand its product line, the X9 610 Max stands as a bold statement to the company’s plans to lead in both EV technology and market share in the competitive Chinese EV market.
