With Xiaomi previously revealing its highly-anticipated SU7 Ultra electric vehicle (EV) prototype, the company has opened pre-orders for the model ahead of its official unveiling on October 29.

In detail, the high-performance SU7 Ultra is expected to be priced at around RMB 800,000 (around $112,500) according to Goldman Sachs estimates. As a result, this represents Xiaomi’s bold entry into the premium EV segment.

Exceptional Performance Specifications

Moreover, the SU7 Ultra delivers exceptional specifications that put it in direct competition with top-tier performance EVs. Powered by a revolutionary three-motor system – combining two V8s motors with one V6s motor – the SU7 Ultra model delivers a massive 1,526 horsepower. The production version will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h (217.48 mph).

At the heart of the SU7 Ultra is CATL’s advanced Qilin 2.0 battery system, featuring a Cell-to-Body (CTB) format that integrates directly into the EV’s structure. The 150 kWh battery pack can output an outstanding 1,330 kW at full charge and maintains over 800 kW output even at 20% charge. The battery’s dual-surface cooling system increases efficiency by 60%, crucial for sustained high-performance driving.

While the prototype showcased in July featured a full carbon fiber body, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that the production version will exclude this feature due to cost considerations. Notably, the company recently attempted to test the SU7 Ultra at Germany’s notorious Nürburgring track, though rain prevented the completion of a full lap.

Strong Demand for Standard SU7 Model

The SU7 Ultra’s launch comes amid strong market performance for Xiaomi’s standard SU7 model, which has achieved over 10,000 deliveries for four consecutive months. The company aims to deliver more than 20,000 units in October alone and is on track to meet its 100,000-unit annual delivery target ahead of schedule in November.

Interestingly, the EV model has garnered attention beyond China’s borders, with Ford CEO Jim Farley notably praising the standard SU7 on The Fully Charged Podcast stating, “I’ve been driving it for six months now, and I don’t want to give it up”, having had the EV flown from Shanghai to Chicago for testing.

As Xiaomi prepares to unveil the SU7 Ultra, it is clear that the company is set to make an impact in the premium EV market. With its notable specifications and innovative battery technology, the SU7 Ultra is not just a competitive offering but a strong contender against established luxury EV brands.
