Volkswagen Winning The AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Award 2024 For Range Optimization, Power Consumption, And Charging Capacity

Volkswagen has been honored with the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Award 2024, recognizing the company as the most innovative volume brand in electric drive systems for electric vehicles (EVs).

In terms of Volkswagen’s advancements in electric mobility technology, the award presented by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) spotlights the company’s innovation in range improvement, power consumption optimization, and charging capacity enhancements.

In detail, Volkswagen’s recent innovations were evaluated among a competitive field of global automotive producers with CAM’s assessment concentrated on 709 individual innovations across three main technology fields: Electric Drive, Autonomous Driving & ADAS, and Infotainment & Connectivity. 

AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Award 2024

For this year, CAM analyzed innovations from 30 vehicle producers and around 100 automotive brands, with around 1,000 innovations reviewed. For Volkswagen, these are the notable innovations highlighted: 

  • Range Optimization: The Volkswagen ID.5 stands out with an improved range of up to 556 km (345 miles), as per the WLTP standard, setting a benchmark in EV range capabilities.
  • Power Consumption: The Volkswagen ID.7 achieved the lowest power consumption, especially its AP550 permanent magnet electric motor delivers 210 kW and 550 Nm of torque while consuming 50% less power compared to the previous 150 kW drive motor.
  • Charging Capacity: The Volkswagen ID.3 delivers an increased maximum charging capacity of 170 kW, up from 135 kW.
  • Electric Ecosystem: The Volkswagen ID. Buzz integrates innovative features including battery preconditioning and a Plug & Charge function, which automatically activates when approaching a fast-charging station.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, expressed honor in receiving the award and emphasized the importance of continual innovation in EVs stating, “Truly impressive vehicles are a prerequisite for the success of electric mobility. This coveted award underlines the innovative advances made in all new ID. models. Our Volkswagen electric cars have become even more attractive, offering significant improvements in comfort, performance, and dynamics.”
