Volkswagen of America has unveiled a new charging plan for its upcoming 2025 ID. Buzz electric vehicle (EV) model, in partnership with Electrify America, that aims to provide ID. Buzz owners with a seamless and cost-effective charging experience.

According to Volkswagen, the 2025 ID. Buzz comes with a comprehensive charging plan designed to provide convenience and cost savings for owners. This package includes three years of Electrify America’s Pass+ membership, which offers 500 kWh of complimentary charging. Owners will have access to Electrify America’s expansive network of over 970 Hyper-Fast charging stations across the U.S., ensuring they are never far from a quick recharge.

Andrew Savvas, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Volkswagen of North America, expressed excitement about the partnership stating, “With three years of Pass+ membership access to the largest open DC fast-charging network in the U.S., families can explore and experience all that electric mobility has to offer.”

ID. Buzz owners will enjoy significant cost benefits through the Pass+ membership, which offers preferential per-kilowatt-hour (kWh) rates. This translates to around 25% savings compared to standard pay-as-you-go options. The 500 kWh of complimentary charging included in the package could provide an estimated 1,250 to 2,000 miles of driving, depending on various factors such as vehicle efficiency, driving conditions, and speed.

The 2025 ID. Buzz introduces Plug&Charge functionality, simplifying the charging process at Electrify America stations. By activating this feature through the Electrify America mobile app, drivers can automatically start charging by simply plugging in the vehicle, eliminating the need for payment steps or card swipes, making the entire experience more seamless.

Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America, added: “With our extensive network of more than 970 Hyper-Fast charging stations strategically located along major highways and in metropolitan areas, ID. Buzz owners can confidently embark on road trips and daily commutes alike.”

The charging plan for the ID. Buzz marks a significant evolution of Volkswagen’s previous charging offers. In 2021, Volkswagen launched the ID.4 with three years of unlimited complimentary charging, providing owners with a generous and flexible charging solution. However, in 2022, the offer was modified to include three years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions instead.

In 2023, Volkswagen enhanced its charging experience further by adding Plug&Charge functionality to the existing offer, streamlining the charging process for ID.4 owners. This innovative feature allowed drivers to activate charging sessions automatically by simply plugging in their vehicles, making the experience more convenient.

In 2024, the ID.4 package was aligned with the 2025 ID. Buzz offer, although it did not include the preferential per-kWh rates. This progression demonstrates Volkswagen’s commitment to improving its charging solutions and enhancing the overall ownership experience for its electric vehicle customers.

The partnership between Volkswagen and Electrify America underscores their joint commitment to promoting zero-direct emission driving and making electric mobility more accessible and convenient for American consumers.
