Volkswagen has officially brought back its iconic Microbus with a modern, all-electric twist as it returns as an electric vehicle (EV). Starting at $59,995, the 2025 ID. Buzz arrives with retro-inspired design with advanced EV technology to create an EV that pays homage to its beloved predecessor.

According to Volkswagen, the new ID. Buzz will be available in three trim levels: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and a limited launch-only 1st Edition. Powered by a 91-kWh battery, the base rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model delivers 282 horsepower, while the available 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) version steps up to 335 horsepower. EPA-estimated range reaches 234 miles for RWD models and 231 miles for 4Motion variants.

“The ID. Buzz is Volkswagen’s next iconic vehicle for North America,” stated Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. “It serves as our brand halo in the U.S. and Canada and embodies the best of Volkswagen: distinctive design, fun to drive, loaded with technology, incredibly spacious, and sustainable.”

As for the exterior design, the ID. Buzz cleverly incorporates classic Microbus elements, including the oversized Volkswagen logo, expansive greenhouse, and distinctive V-shaped hood. Modern touches include LED projector headlights, power-sliding rear doors, and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a retro-inspired disc design.

Moreover, buyers can choose from several exterior colors, including nostalgic two-tone combinations pairing Candy White or Metro Silver tops with vibrant body colors like Energetic Orange and Cherry Red.

Despite its retro inspiration, the ID. Buzz is thoroughly modern in size and capability. At 195.4 inches long with a 127.5-inch wheelbase, it offers more interior space than Volkswagen’s three-row Atlas SUV. The standard seven-seat configuration includes a sliding second-row bench seat, while Pro S Plus rear-wheel-drive models offer an available six-seat layout with captain’s chairs, standard on all 4Motion models.

Cargo space ranges from 18.6 cubic feet behind the third row to a cavernous 145.5 cubic feet with the second row folded and third row removed. The vehicle can tow up to 2,600 pounds in rear-wheel-drive form and 3,500 pounds with 4Motion all-wheel drive.

For the interior, the ID. Buzz features a 12.9-inch central infotainment display and a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Available features include a head-up display, a 700-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system, and an electrochromic smart glass roof that can switch from clear to opaque at the touch of a finger.

The ID. Buzz comes standard with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance suite, including Travel Assist, Front Assist, Active Side Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go functionality. Additional safety features include seven airbags and comprehensive crash response systems.

In terms of charging capabilities, its DC fast-charging speeds up to 200kW allowing for a 10% to 80% charge in around 26 minutes. Every ID. Buzz includes Volkswagen’s Charging Plan, providing 500 kWh of free charging at Electrify America stations and three years of Pass+ membership.
