Rivian has begun deploying a software update, version 2024.31, for the R1T and R1S electric vehicles (EVs). This update introduces a highly anticipated “Launch Mode” feature for the latest tri-motor versions of these EVs, along with a host of other enhancements.

‘Launch Mode’ for Tri-Motor Models

The headline feature of this update is the introduction of “Launch Mode” for the 2025 tri-motor variants of the R1T and R1S. This mode is designed for use on closed circuit tracks with dry road conditions and is intended to deliver maximum acceleration and increased top speed, allowing drivers to showcase the EV’s remarkable 0 to 60 mph and quarter-mile performance.

Moreover, owners of the first-generation R1 models (2022 to 2024) can now customize the color theme of their EV’s accent lights, with more options available to personalize the driving experience.

In addition, the update includes enhancements to the cabin’s climate control system, such as three different fan speed options in Auto Mode, as well as a lowered temperature limit of 63°F for the Pet Mode feature, accessible through the center display or Rivian app.

Rivian’s software update 2024.31 also brings improvements to:

  • Accuracy of traffic data and route color coding
  • Battery performance during aggressive driving at high temperatures
  • Efficiency of windshield defrost and defog modes
  • Reliability of the Gear Guard app
  • Smoothness of re-engaging Highway Assist after lane changes
  • Backup camera view stability

Continuous Improvement Commitment

With this software update, it underlines Rivian’s goal to continuously improve the driving experience and maintain its EVs at the forefront of EV technology. As software-defined EVs, Rivian owners can expect regular over-the-air (OTA) updates that unlock new capabilities and enhance the overall ownership experience.

As Rivian prepares to introduce its upcoming R2 and R3 models, the company’s strategy for continuous improvement through regular software updates will ensure its flagship R1 models remain at ahead of the EV market.
