Mercedes-Benz is set to revolutionize its electric vehicle (EV) lineup in the United States (U.S.) for the 2025 model year, with significant upgrades to battery capacity, range, and the introduction of the highly anticipated electric G-Class.

EQE and EQS Models Get a Power Boost

According to Mercedes-Benz, the company has announced that most of its EQE and EQS models will receive larger battery packs, translating to improved range capabilities. The EQE 350+ and EQE 500 sedans will now feature a 96-kilowatt-hour battery, up from the current 90.6 kWh. This upgrade is expected to push the range of the EQE 350+, currently EPA-rated at 307 miles, to potentially over 330 miles on a single charge.

For the flagship EQS sedan, Mercedes is increasing the battery capacity from 108 kWh to a substantial 118 kWh. While official EPA figures haven’t been released, industry experts anticipate the longest-range EQS 450+ model to exceed 380 miles, up from its current 352-mile rating.

Pricing for the 2025 EQE sedan will start at $74,900 for the EQE 350+, ranging up to $106,900 for the high-performance AMG variant. The EQS sedan lineup will begin at $104,400 for the EQS 450+, topping out at $147,550 for the AMG model.

The Electric G-Class Arrives

Perhaps the most exciting announcement is the confirmation of the all-electric G-Class, which will be marketed as the G 580 with EQ Technology. This naming convention signals Mercedes’ move away from the EQ branding for its EVs.

The G 580 EV will come equipped with a 116 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP range of 293 miles on the European cycle. For U.S. buyers, the EPA-estimated range is expected to be around 250 miles. Although this range is shorter than some competitors, such as the Rivian R1S, the G 580 makes up for it with its impressive performance specs.

The electric SUV will feature a quad-motor setup, delivering 579 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. This allows the G 580 to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph. It will also come with advanced off-road capabilities, including a low-range mode and a tank turn feature, making it a strong contender for off-road enthusiasts. Priced at a premium $161,500, the electric G-Wagen is expected to arrive in dealerships before the end of 2024.

Additional Perks for EV Buyers

To sweeten the deal for potential buyers, Mercedes-Benz is offering a choice between a $1,000 credit on Mercedes meCharge accounts or a complimentary home wall box charging station. Furthermore, customers purchasing new 2025 model year EVs will receive two years of free charging at Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging network locations.

Availability and Market Strategy

The updated EQE and EQS models are expected to reach U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2025. This move aligns with Mercedes-Benz’s broader strategy to enhance its EV offerings and maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving EV market.

In Europe, the company has already taken steps to increase affordability, recently reducing prices for its EQ models by up to 8 percent in Germany. This price adjustment was attributed to a desire for “greater transparency for customers.”

With Mercedes-Benz’s comprehensive update to its EV lineup, it demonstrates the company’s goal to innovation and meeting the evolving demands of eco-conscious luxury EV buyers.
