Ionna, an EV charging network, is making noticeable strides in the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure industry across North America as it announced its headquarters, key executive appointments, and operational plans.

Headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, Ionna is backed by seven automakers in the automotive landscape. These seven automakers are BMW Group, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis.

Ionna’s Charging Goals

The charging network aims to install over 30,000 high-powered DC fast chargers along major highway corridors and in urban locations, ensuring widespread accessibility for EV owners. Through this goal, Ionna’s leadership team comprises seasoned professionals from the EV charging, automotive, and energy sectors. These include Derek Rush as CFO, Ricardo Stamatti as Chief Product Officer, Shankar Muthukumar as COO, and Seth Cutler as CEO.

Moreover, Ionna’s strategic approach to charging infrastructure is designed on a buyer-first initiative that focuses on enhancing the charging experience, where the company plans to create charging stations that offer amenities including retail offerings, food, restrooms, and covered charging for EVs.

Furthermore, Ionna’s practice in sustainability also prioritizes utilizing renewable energy solutions as its charging network will feature intelligent route planning, support for Plug & Charge technology, and charging connectors capable of delivering up to 350 kW.

EV Charging Infrastructure Expansion

With the EV charging network industry in North America seeing competition growth and Ionna’s uncertainties with leveraging NEVI funding, the company is still prepared to send out its first charging stations later in 2024. As a result, this displays expanding charging infrastructure as a crucial step towards addressing the current challenges faced by EV owners, such as insufficient charging stations and unreliable equipment.

With the Biden administration’s goal of reaching 500,000 public charging ports by 2030, Ionna is set to expand North America’s charging infrastructure will continue to see acceleration in expansion as well as in widespread EV adoption.
