Hyundai’s electric vehicle (EV) lineup is about to get bigger with the impending arrival of its first three-row electric SUV, the Hyundai IONIQ 9. The attention surrounding its debut heightened recently as the Hyundai IONIQ 9 was seen experiencing testing on the streets of California.

The appearance of the Hyundai IONIQ 9 has caused excitement with the EV model displaying particularly bigger and showing its sleek new headlights design. Initially, the IONIQ 9 was revealed as the IONIQ 7 at the 2021 LA Auto Show. However, recent reports by Automotive News stated the name change to the IONIQ 9.

Moreover, Hyundai’s EV lineup has already delivered positive results of a 100% EV sales increase with its Q1 2024 reaching record-breaking EV sales. The results of its Q1 2024 in the U.S. numbers place Hyundai to become the second-best-selling company with EVs involved.

The IONIQ 5, Hyundai’s sixth top-selling EV in the US last year, with nearly 34,000 units sold, laid a solid foundation for the brand’s EV ambitions. Building upon this momentum, Hyundai continues to enhance its EV offerings based on its latest achievements such as its Hyundai IONIQ 5 N winning the 2024 World Performance Car and its IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 winning the Best Multicultural Marketing Award.

The production stage of the Hyundai IONIQ 9 is slated to begin in the first half of 2024 at Hyundai’s new $7.6 billion EV Metaplant in Georgia. Furthermore, sales of the IONIQ 9 are predicted to start in the U.S. by mid-2025 with anticipations for it to qualify for the federal EV tax credit of $7,500.

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 will be a figurehead to the company’s EV venture as it goes all in on establishing itself as an EV company as stated by Hyundai’s US CEO Randy Parker who said, “If a person is thinking about buying an EV, I think you want to go to a company who is fully committed to selling EVs in the United States.”

Overall, Hyundai’s IONIQ 9 will be the future star of the company’s EV lineup and will be one to watch as the process of putting this EV on the market is underway.
