After Hyundai revealed its Inster EV in European markets, Hyundai has officially opened pre-orders for its Casper Electric mini SUV in South Korea’s electric vehicle (EV) market.

The Casper Electric, which will be known as the Inster EV in European markets, will have a starting price of just 31.5 million won (around $22,800) for the base “Inspiration” model, positioned to be one of the most affordable EVs in the market. When factoring in government incentives and rebates, Hyundai projects the price to drop even lower, potentially falling below 20 million won ($14,500) for some buyers according to Hyundai.

This electrified version of the gas-powered Casper was first introduced in 2021 and arrives with major improvements and modern design elements. For the long-range Inspiration trim, it is currently available for pre-order and comes with a 49 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese battery. Its powertrain delivers an estimated range of up to 315 km (196 miles) on a single charge in South Korea, with European models delivering an estimated range of up to 355 km (221 miles).

Moreover, the Casper Electric can charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes and includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing EV owners to power external electronics, tools, or home appliances from the EV’s battery.

As for the Casper Electric design elements, it includes DRL headlights and pixelated turn signals. The interior has been updated with dual 10.25-inch infotainment and driver display screens, a steering wheel with interactive pixel lights, and ambient lighting. Interestingly, the electric version provides more second-row and trunk space compared to its gas-powered counterpart.

Hyundai also plans to introduce premium and off-road trims of the Casper Electric for different buyer preferences. Also, the launch of Casper Electric is part of Hyundai’s broader push into the EV market as the company plans to introduce its EV (under the name Inster) to European, Middle Eastern, and Asia Pacific markets.

With the Hyundai Casper Electric becoming a step forward in making EVs more accessible to a broader range of consumers, the Casper Electric will contribute to reshaping the entry-level EV market with its combination of affordability, practicality, and modern features.
