Strong Initial Interest

The revival of the Capri name has generated significant excitement, with Ford reporting that nearly 200,000 European customers have already configured their personal Capri model online. This early interest suggests a warm reception for the electric reimagining of the classic sports coupe.

All models share a top speed of 180 kph (112 mph) but differ in battery capacity and power output. The battery options range from 52 kWh to 79 kWh, and power output spans from 125 kW (168 hp) for the base model to 250 kW (335 hp) for the AWD variant. The Extended Range RWD model offers the most driving range, capable of reaching 627 km (390 miles) on a single charge.

Ford has equipped the new Capri with a host of advanced features to enhance both functionality and comfort. Inside, drivers will find a 14.6-inch moveable touchscreen and a spacious 17-liter “MegaConsole” under the front armrest. The vehicle also offers over 570 liters of boot space for ample storage. Safety and convenience are prioritized with advanced driver assistance systems that utilize 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 cameras, and 3 radars to support a wide range of driving aids.

When configuring their Capris, early customers have shown a preference for specific options. Vivid Yellow paint, reminiscent of the classic Daytona Yellow, has been chosen by 24% of buyers. Meanwhile, 55% have opted for the Premium model, which includes features like Dynamic Matrix LED headlights and a 10-speaker B&O sound system. Additionally, 59% have selected the 286 PS (282 hp) rear-wheel drive powertrain, highlighting a trend toward higher performance among early adopters.

Production and Investment

The electric Capri is being manufactured at Ford’s historic Cologne plant, which has undergone a $2 billion transformation into a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle Center. This significant investment underscores Ford’s commitment to electrification in Europe.

Jon Williams, general manager of Ford Blue and Model e, Europe, expressed enthusiasm for the launch stating, “Our new all-electric Capri is the car the iconic sports coupe was destined to become. Its return has been well worth the wait, and we couldn’t be more excited to see a new generation about to experience the style and swagger that made Capri such a legend.”
