China’s oldest automaker Changan has unveiled the Nevo E07, a new electric vehicle (EV) model that can transform from an SUV into a pickup truck with the push of a button.

According to Changan, the Nevo E07 launched under the company’s young Nevo brand, is being touted as the first mass-produced “transformer” style vehicle to hit the market. At the touch of a button, the electric SUV’s retractable trunk cover opens up, converting the rear into a functional pickup truck bed capable of hauling up to 300 kg of cargo.

“The Nevo E07 is a game-changer that combines the versatility of an SUV and the utility of a pickup,” stated Li Feng, Changan Nevo’s CEO. “We’re proud to be the first to bring this transformative technology to the mass market.”

With dimensions of 5,054 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall, the Nevo E07 is slightly larger than a Tesla Model X, but has a longer 3,120 mm wheelbase. This extended length allows the EV to seamlessly transition between SUV and pickup configurations.

As for performance, the base “Air” model features a 338 hp (252 kW) rear-mounted electric motor, with an optional dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration boasting up to 590 hp (440 kW). Battery packs ranging from 70 to 90 kWh provide an impressive driving range of 551 to 701 km (342 to 435 miles) on the CLTC cycle.

The Nevo E07’s interior maintains a minimalist aesthetic, highlighted by a massive 15.4-inch infotainment display and a 28.86-inch head-up display. An optional passenger-side display replaces the traditional sun visor, further enhancing the vehicle’s futuristic appeal.

Furthermore, pricing for the Nevo E07 starts at a very affordable RMB 199,900 (around $28,100), for the base Air model. Higher trim levels can reach up to RMB 319,900 (around $44,950 USD) for the range-topping Ultra variant.

While Changan may not be a household name outside of China, the brand has been steadily gaining ground in the country’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. With the launch of the transforming Nevo E07, Changan is positioning itself as a leader in innovative, affordable, and versatile electric mobility solutions.
