Acura has made a bold step into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the global debut of its Performance EV Concept during Monterey Car Week. This SUV concept previews the company’s next all-electric production model, set to start production in late 2025.

According to Acura, the Performance EV Concept will be the first EV built on Honda’s new in-house developed EV platform. It also marks the inaugural EV to be produced at the Honda EV Hub in Marysville, Ohio, where the company is investing heavily in EV production capabilities.

Designed by Acura’s Los Angeles studio, the concept showcases a dramatic evolution of the brand’s design language. Drawing inspiration from hydrofoil superyachts, the electric SUV features a sleek front fascia, vented hood, and sculpted side surfaces. The concept’s “Moonlit White Pearl” semi-matte finish accentuates its coupe-like silhouette and teardrop cabin.

“The Acura Performance EV Concept is the archetype of Acura Performance in the electrified era,” stated Dave Marek, Acura Design Executive. He expressed that the concept introduces design themes that will appear in future Acura vehicles.

Moreover, notable design elements include 23-inch wheels, wide 295/35R23 performance tires, and high-performance brakes with neon green Acura scripting on the calipers. The rear features a full-width taillight and large diffuser, paying homage to the second-generation NSX.

While specific performance details remain under wraps, Acura has confirmed that the production version will utilize the company’s new EV technology. As a result, this marks a departure from the current Acura ZDX, which is based on General Motors’ Ultium platform.

The concept’s debut aligns with Honda’s EV strategy. The company is establishing an EV Hub in Ohio, investing at least $700 million to transform existing plants for EV production. In addition, Honda and LG Energy Solution are jointly investing $3.5 billion in a new battery plant near Jeffersonville, Ohio, scheduled for completion by the end of 2024.

As Acura moves forward, this concept will become a pivotal moment for its EV strategy. The company’s Performance EV Concept makes its public debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, on August 16, and will be featured on the Concept Lawn at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18.
