Hyundai Unveils IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup Electric Race Car With 650 Horsepower

Hyundai has marked another significant milestone with the official unveiling of its racing electric vehicle (EV), the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car. Revealed during the official practice round for participating teams in the upcoming Hyundai N Festival motorsports event, this EV represents a major step towards the future of racing motorsports.

Built upon the foundation of the award-winning IONIQ 5 N high-performance EV, the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car has experienced meticulous upgrades tailored for intensive circuit race driving. It possesses a potent powertrain inherited from the IONIQ 5 N, delivering a peak power output of 650 hp and providing high durability under demanding racing conditions.

“This unique electric racing car demonstrates our cutting-edge technology and passion for pushing the boundaries of what EVs can achieve on the racetrack,” expressed Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand & Motorsport at Hyundai Motor Company.

The IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car also features a redesigned body kit optimized for enhanced aerodynamics, ensuring excellent handling and increased downforce for maximum performance on the race track. In regards to safety, Hyundai has implemented necessary measures such as roll cages, racing bucket seats, seat belts, and specialized fire extinguishers made for electric fires. These enhancements assure the highest level of safety standards in EV racing, reflecting Hyundai’s commitment to driver protection.

The IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car will spearhead the introduction of EV racing in the Hyundai N Festival, providing a platform for teams to develop and learn about next-generation EV motorsports. The forthcoming season will serve as a trial period for EV racing, promoting growth and development within Korea’s vibrant motorsport culture while making strides on a global scale.

The Hyundai N Festival, commencing with the opening round at Inje Speedium on April 27, will feature the eN1 class. The festival will be presenting different arrays of racing formats including one-on-one knockout races and traditional sprint races. This comprehensive approach aims to facilitate a deeper understanding and testing of various EV racing methodologies, solidifying Hyundai’s position at the forefront of EV racing innovation.
