Currently, the United States (U.S.) has witnessed a surge when it comes to DC fast charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) for now there is 1 charging station in every 15 gas stations.
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. has around 8,200 public DC fast charging stations in the U.S. as the country is now facing a rapid transition in EV adoption and an increase in charging infrastructure. For Q1 2024, there is a 7.6% increase in the installation of DC fast charging stations with 600 of them enabled for use.
Moreover, Tesla has been taking charge of expanding the charging infrastructure as a quarter of the total EV charging stations are constructed by the company. The results of this come from Tesla’s Superchargers eligible for federal funding under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. There are also other programs such as the Oklahoma Transportation Commission approving more than $8 million in federal funds to three private partners to build 13 charging stations across the state, which also includes Tesla as one of them.
Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Energy reported data that shows the country now has 62,793 level 2 and level 3 charging stations as of now. With the rapid increase of charging stations along with assistance from other organizations for this expansion, the accessibility for EV owners to charging stations across the U.S. will be more convenient.
Recently, this convenience for EV owners to use charging stations in the U.S. has also been enhanced by Google as the company added new features for searching EV charging stations in its Google Maps. In addition, Bloomberg also noted an estimate in global public-charging revenue, reaching $127 billion by 2030.
As the increase of EV charging stations continues to grow at a fast pace, the likelihood of EV adoption will also face an increase in the U.S. EV market. The growth will essentially reshape the preferences of the public towards EVs and highlight the investment in charging infrastructure as a benefit to the U.S. economy and acceleration of electric mobility.
