Ford announced the introduction of a built-in Karaoke feature for select models, starting with the F-150 Lightning electric vehicle (EV). Set to roll out through a software update, this feature promises to transform charging stops and road trips into impromptu singing sessions.

Sing Along with Stingray

Ford has partnered with Stingray to bring the Stingray Karaoke app to its vehicles. This feature will allow drivers and passengers to access a vast catalog of songs spanning various genres, including Rock, Country, Pop, R&B, Latin, K&J Pop, and family-friendly tunes. The app contains an impressive linguistic range, offering songs in 38 languages, with 10 languages displayed in local characters such as Thai, Hebrew, Russian, and Greek.

Chet Dhruna, Connect and Engage General Manager at Ford Motor Company, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the in-vehicle experience stating, “Creating joy inside the vehicle by delivering amazing experiences is a huge part of our team’s job at Ford. Now, for the first time, karaoke will be available to Ford owners, starting with F-150 Lightning and followed by Mustang Mach-E.”

According to Ford, the Karaoke feature can be enjoyed both while parked and on the go, with some clever safety features built in:

  • When parked or charging, lyrics will be displayed directly on the vehicle’s infotainment screen.
  • While driving, the system will detect if a passenger is buckled in the front seat.
  • A QR code will appear on the screen, which the passenger can scan with their smartphone.
  • This opens a web page where the passenger can control the karaoke experience without needing to log into an app.
  • Passengers can add songs to the playlist, change tracks, view scrolling lyrics, and utilize the vehicle’s audio system.

F-150 Lightning models. Eligible vehicles include Lightning, Platinum, and Flash models equipped with the SYNC 4A infotainment system. The update will be available in the United States (U.S.), Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

Following the F-150 Lightning, the Mustang Mach-E will be the next to receive the Karaoke feature. Ford also plans to make the Stingray App available for download on vehicles with the Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience.

As charging times can sometimes be lengthy, providing engaging entertainment options like Karaoke can help make these stops more enjoyable for drivers and passengers alike.

The introduction of this feature also highlights the growing trend of treating vehicles as extensions of our digital lives, with infotainment systems becoming increasingly sophisticated and interactive.
