Lucid has set new benchmarks in electric vehicle (EV) technology with the announcement of unprecedented charging capabilities for its Gravity SUV, revealing that the Gravity will feature groundbreaking 400-kilowatt fast charging speeds and native access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network starting January 31, 2024.

926-Volt System Boosts Speed and Range

The Lucid Gravity’s innovative 926-volt architecture shows a major leap forward in EV technology. While most EVs operate at around 400 volts, Lucid’s system enables the SUV to add 200 miles of range in less than 12 minutes when connected to compatible charging stations. This charging speed substantially surpasses current market offerings, though consumers should note that 400-kilowatt charging stations remain relatively scarce in the current infrastructure.

Notably, the Lucid Gravity stands out for its sophisticated approach to charging compatibility. The EV employs a patented technology that uses its rear motor drive unit to boost charging voltage from 500V stations to match its 926V battery pack. This engineering solution allows the Lucid Gravity to achieve impressive charging speeds of up to 225 kilowatts even on standard Tesla V3 Superchargers, addressing a common limitation faced by high-voltage EVs at lower-voltage charging stations.

Family-Friendly SUV with 450-Mile Range

In addition, the vehicle’s practicality extends beyond its charging capabilities. With seating for seven adults and an EPA-estimated range of 450 miles, the Gravity blends family-friendly utility with long-distance travel capability. The SUV also features bi-directional charging, supporting up to 80 amps at 19.2 kilowatts, and can even charge other EVs through its optional RangeXchange cable.

Moreover, the pricing for the Lucid Gravity starts at $94,900 for the Grand Touring trim, with a more accessible Touring model planned for late 2025 at $79,900. The company has already begun deliveries to employees and their families, with wider customer deliveries expected to follow soon.

First Non-Tesla EV with Native NACS Port

Furthermore, as the first non-Tesla vehicle to come equipped with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, the Lucid Gravity represents the leading edge of an industry-wide transition away from the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard. Lucid includes both CCS-to-NACS and J1772-to-NACS adapters with every Gravity, ensuring comprehensive charging accessibility.

Interestingly, the company also announced that its flagship Lucid Air sedan will gain Tesla Supercharger access in the second quarter of 2025, further expanding the reach of its charging ecosystem. These developments reflect Lucid’s commitment to addressing one of the primary concerns of potential EV adopters: charging convenience and speed.

With its combination of advanced technology, practical design, and unprecedented charging capabilities, the Lucid Gravity appears positioned to challenge conventional expectations of electric SUV performance and utility. As the automotive industry continues its electric transition, innovations like these may prove crucial in accelerating widespread EV adoption.
